Kaitlin + Sean | An Intimate Cleveland Maternity Session

*I swear I shoot more than maternity photos.*

I recently got the chance to photograph two friends and you know that’s my favorite. I met Kaitlin + Sean when they were still engaged, and knew we’d be friends right away. They recently moved, so we don’t get the chance to hang out as much as I’d like, but this session was the perfect chance to catch up. We wandered around a couple of my favorite Cleveland spots, and made some magic.

Hannah & Jimmy – A Cleveland Engagement Session

I want you to take a moment to think about your favorite love story. Really think. Does it come from an old Jane Austen novel you first found dusty on your grandma’s bookshelf? Or is the classic “receptionist falls in love with the sarcastic paper salesman” scenario more your speed? Does it twist and turn, or does it take more of a straight, simple path? What do you love about it? What drew you in?

I remember the first time I met Hannah and Jimmy. Just like with many of my clients, we sat down for coffee and I asked them to tell their story.

I can’t recall every detail but I do remember it was like a book I didn’t want to stop reading.

Their proposal was unlike any I’d ever heard. It had me laughing and crying (even if maybe just because I laughed too hard.) If you ever have the privilege of meeting these two, do yourself a favor and ask Jimmy to tell you the story. It’ll be your new favorite.

A few weeks ago, we got to meet up again. We strolled through Tremont, and stopped at the place where they had their first date together (RIP Lolita). We found all the good sun spots, and then headed to Edgewater Beach. It was the perfect evening to add another page to their story.

Bekah & Andrew – A Rocky River Maternity Session

“In open fields of wild flowers, she breathes the air and flies away.
She thanks her Jesus for the daisies and the roses in no simple language.

Someday she’ll understand the meaning of it all.”

Matthew & Amanda – A Bay Village Engagement Session

It was the perfect summer night on the lake. We played some Copeland, walked through the perfectly unkept grass, and smelled the water’s air.

In the woods & on the beach.

Matthew & Amanda.

Dana – A Laurel School Senior Portrait Session

Dana’s a girl that makes things happen. She’s ambitious, compassionate, and as you can see, gorgeous.
I have a questionnaire that I ask seniors to fill out for me so I can get a little understanding of who they are and what they like before our session. Dana’s definitely impressed me.
When I was in high school, I spent most of my time in class thinking about whose house we were going to sleepover that night. Dana spends her time interning at the Cleveland Clinic. She’s a senior at Laurel School, where she founded multiple clubs and is a member of even more. She’s applying to over a dozen colleges, and my guess is that she’ll have her pick of any of them. Her goal is to be a pediatric surgeon.

I had such a great time hanging out with Dana for her senior pictures at the Huntington Reservation in Bay Village. The trek through the weeds was more than worth it, and if you look closely, you might even be able to spot some new friends we made along the way.

Here are some of my favorite images from our session together.

Zach & Kayla’s Hinckley Reservation Engagement Session

I met Kayla for Coffee a few months ago. When we sat down, I didn’t know anything about her, but by the time we were finished, she felt like a friend. She began explaining why she liked my work so much, and as she was talking, I realized she understood my vision & style better than anyone else I’ve worked with. She totally got me. When I left our coffee date that day, I knew we were going to make a great team.

Kayla & Zach decided on a sunrise session. (Have I told you how much I love those? Oh, I have? My bad.) They picked the per-fect location – like stuff out of my dreams. These yellow flowers? Does it get any better? As we began shooting, we realized pretty quickly that our sunrise session was becoming a sun-taking-its-time-to-get-out-of-bed session. We didn’t see much of the sun at all that day, but if you can’t tell, we didn’t mind. The fog stuck around longer than normal on September mornings, and we enjoyed every minute of it.

Kayla, you’re going to make such a beautiful bride, and Zach a handsome groom. You two deserve each other in the best of ways.

Marlee & Grant – A Huntington Beach Engagement Session

“Oh come my love and swim with me, out in this vast Binary Sea.
Zeros and ones, patterns appear. They’ll prove to all that we were here.
For if there is no document, we cannot build our monument.
So look into the lens and I’ll make sure this moment never dies.”

Billy – A St. Ignatius Senior Session

Since I started this business, the majority of my time has been spent with couples. Proposals, engagements, and weddings are my bread and butter. But that’s definitely not all I do. This spring, I spent quite a bit of time photographing all kinds of people in all different stages of life, and I kind of fell in love with Senior Portraits. There was a week in May where I had a senior shoot 4 out of 5 nights – and I absolutely loved it.

I remember being a Senior. Packing up my locker. Taking the last of my tests. Turning in my last paper. And saying goodbye to the friends I had known forever. It’s terrifying and exhilarating all at once.

That’s where Billy is. Leaving St. Ignatius, working his summer job, all while waiting to start something completely new.

We started our session in the Metroparks where Billy works, walked along the Rocky River, and ended up in one of my favorite spots in Cleveland – the Flats. If you look closely, you’ll also see a Cinemagraph from our session!

I hope this year brings great things for all of the 2016 Seniors I’ve met. And I also hope it brings the 2017 seniors my way, so we can make some more photo magic together.
